Help! My routine has changed and my daily walk with God is suffering!
23 04 2012The changing seasons of life require us to follow the admonition of James 1:5.
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
Think about some of the key phrases in this verse:
- God is not selective – “…giveth to all men…”
- God giveth this wisdom generously – “…liberally…” [I illustrate this by saying, “I never have to worry I’m taking the last of His wisdom.”]
- God giveth wisdom without correcting us for needing it – “…and upbraideth not…”
Upon receiving this wisdom that God promises to give to those who ask we find that it will manifest itself in the following ways:
Wisdom will lead us to not…
1.) … get mad at the God who controls all events, and blame Him for the change that has affected my devotional walk with God.
2.) … use the change in routine as my excuse for not having a consistent devotional walk with God.
3.) …believe that God is most pleased with our habitual routine but with our relationship to Him.
Wisdom will enable us to…
4.) …make sure we have realistic goals for our devotional walk with God.
5.) …make sure we have properly defined a devotional walk with God.
6.) …relook at our schedules and lifestyle and reprioritize the things we are choosing to do to make it possible for a devotional walk with God.
Wisdom will provide some practical applications…
7.) You will focus on the quality of what you are reading, not the quantity.
8.) You will focus exclusively on the written Word of God and not the words of man. [ie. I’m putting a lot of other books aside]
9.) You will focus on meditation about God and communication to God.
